We are calling for applications from individuals, academics, and/or representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to be the NGO delegate on the official New Zealand Government delegation to the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
The Commission on the Status of Women is the highest-level annual international forum on gender equality and women’s empowerment. CSW69 is being held from 10 to 21 March 2025 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 1995 (Beijing+30). The main focus of CSW69 will be to review 30 years of global progress on implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly. The 69th session will also assess the current challenges to the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and the realisation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This global review follows comprehensive national-level reviews by States, including New Zealand, which fed into five regional reviews. Read more on the Beijing30+ review process on the UN Women website.
The NGO delegate is an important member of the delegation and will be involved in:
- providing advice to the Delegation from an NGO perspective
- sharing insights and expertise relevant to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- acting as a liaison point between New Zealand-based NGOs (both those attending CSW69 and those in New Zealand) and the Delegation
- attending specified sessions and diplomatic functions, as necessary, as an official member of the Delegation.
(Please note that some engagements may take place outside of regular working hours).
Ministry for Women funding
The Ministry for Women will provide up to $10,000 to support the participation of an NGO delegate at CSW69. This includes financial reimbursement for the costs of flights, accommodation, travel insurance as well as meals, transport costs and reasonable incidentals related to the NGO delegate’s participation in the delegation.
This will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts to the Ministry, following the conclusion of CSW69. No pre-payments will be available.
The delegate can either book their accommodation in New York themselves, or if the NGO delegate chooses to stay in the same accommodation as the Government delegation, the Ministry for Women can help to arrange accommodation.

All applicants will be assessed based on their individual merits, and we encourage applications from people of all ages, genders and diverse backgrounds.
