About the organisation
The New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is the regulator and membership body for lawyers in Aotearoa New Zealand who wok to uphold professional standards, support the legal profession, and strengthen public trust and confidence in the legal system.
In 2018, the Law Society introduced the Gender Equality Charter (GEC), which encourages legal workplaces, including law firms, in-house legal teams, barristerial chambers, barristers, and sole practitioners, to publicly commit to advancing gender equality and inclusion.
As part of the Charter, signatories participate in a biennial survey that measures progress against six commitments, including efforts to close gender pay gaps. The survey collects data and insights to help organisations understand their progress and identify areas for improvement.
Since its launch in 2018, 162 legal workplaces across New Zealand have adopted the Gender Equality Charter.
