We want to hear what you think

This briefing has been written for the public, while also providing some insights for NGOs, women’s networks, independent agencies and research groups working on online safety or women’s leadership on:

  • what we know about the nature and scale of online harm
  • why it is a growing problem
  • the risks to the future of women in leadership
  • what is already being done and what more could be done to create a better future for women in leadership.

We are seeking your feedback on the areas we’ve covered, the insights we’ve gleaned and whether you think it could be useful in guiding further discussions and work in the online harm space. Your feedback will help inform the final briefing.

Please provide your feedback using the online form by Thursday 9 April 2026.

What is a Long-term Insights Briefing?

Long-term Insights Briefings are intended to be ‘think pieces’ that provide information and analysis about medium and long-term trends, risks  and opportunities that affect Aotearoa New Zealand. Public service agencies are required to develop a Long-term Insights Briefing at least once every three years.

Long-term Insights Briefings are not government policy and are independent of ministers.

Please note:

In the interests of transparency and to inform public discussion on these topics, a summary of submissions may be published on our website once the consultation period has closed and the final briefing has been released. Any personal or identifying details will be removed from submissions that are published. If you do not want your submission to be released, please request that when you make your submission.

The Public Service Act requires us to publish the briefing and present the final briefing to the House of Representatives.

How we will store your feedback and details

The Ministry will collect the information you provide to help inform the development of the final LTIB and to provide you with updates on the outcomes of this consultation. All submissions, or a summary thereof, may be published on our website once the consultation period has closed in the interests of transparency and to inform public discussion on these topics. Any personal or identifying details provided will be removed if information is published.

Your name and email address (if you provide them) will be kept secure by storing it in restricted files and only allowing certain Ministry staff who are supporting the LTIB to access it. You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information the Ministry holds about you and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.

Submissions are official information

Submissions you make become official information and the content of submissions can requested under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). Under the OIA, we must make information available unless there is good reason for withholding it in part or in full.
