The Ministry for Women has published a practical new guide to help workplaces recognise stalking, respond safely and support affected employees.

"Recognise, Respond, Support: Practical workplace responses to stalking" has been developed in partnership with Shine and in collaboration with Human Resources New Zealand. It follows recent changes to the Crimes Act that made stalking and harassment a criminal offence.

The guide includes practical information and tools to help workplaces:

  • Recognise stalking behaviours and their impacts
  • Respond appropriately when an employee discloses stalking
  • Assess and manage workplace safety risks
  • Connect affected employees with specialist support services
  • Strengthen workplace policies and safety processes.

Stalking can happen in a person’s private life, at work or both. Workplaces have an important role in recognising warning signs, responding appropriately and helping keep employees safe. By improving workplace awareness and preparedness, the guide supports safer and more responsive environments for people affected by stalking.
